Asphalt Feeder Operator

Job Title: Asphalt Feeder/Loader operator

Location: Byram, MS

Summary:
The Asphalt Feeder operator (often classified as a Front-End Loader Operator at an asphalt plant) is responsible for safely and efficiently supplying raw materials to the asphalt production plant. This role involves maintaining consistent, accurate material levels in the feeder bins to ensure continuous production, operating a loader in high-traffic stockpile areas, and performing routine maintenance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material Management: Identify and transport aggregate/stone from stockpiles to the plant's feeder bins, maintaining adequate levels in 4 or more bins simultaneously.
  • Loader Operation: Operate a front-end loader in a high-traffic area, keeping stockpiles managed, pushed up, and organized.
  • Quality Control: Maintain the correct blend of aggregate sizes for the current production mix.
  • Plant Maintenance: Conduct daily pre-trip inspections, fuel, lubricate, and grease the loader and conveyor systems.
  • Site Cleanup: Keep roadways around the plant and stockpiles clean, level, and free of spilled materials.
  • Collaboration: Communicate via radio with plant operators to coordinate material feeding and report any malfunctions.
  • Safety Adherence: Follow all company safety policies, MSHA/OSHA regulations, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Experience: Proven experience operating a front-end loader or similar heavy equipment, preferably in a plant environment.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to perform basic preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on machinery.
  • Physical Strength: Ability to lift over 50 pounds, climb onto equipment, and work in varied weather conditions.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to distinguish between different material sizes (stone) and monitor bin levels accurately.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen with a “Negative” result.
  • Must be able to complete a post- offer physical with a “Capable” result
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold
  • Experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Ascend/Descend ladder 8-10 feet to access equipment operating station.
  • Keep equipment moving along specified path to ensure equipment is processing material to required specifications.
  • Remove excess built up material at the end of shift using scraper and shovel, periodically the operator may need to use jack or chipping hammers.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by Forman or Manager.

Work Environment:

This role operates in both office and active construction site environments. Candidate must be able to perform site walks, attend field meetings, and ensure on-site safety and compliance.
